We take great pride in our dogs and puppies. We keep all our dogs in our home with lots of play time out side. Our dogs are not dogs to us but part of our family.
We start out with our new born puppies in a room with their Mom so she can have a peaceful place to take care of her new born puppies. New Mom can come and go as she please but we do not let any other dogs around the new born puppies. Mom gets extra puppy food to help her feed the new born.
When our puppies are about 4 to 5 weeks old we start them on dog litter training. We move the puppies out into puppy play pens in our living room around 5 to 6 weeks old so they will be use to everyday sounds and our other dogs along with our Blue and Gold Macaw bird. If I have more than one litter around the same age I will keep them together so they learn to play with other dogs.
We start to worm puppies and Mom at 2 weeks old. We worm at 3,4,6 and 8 weeks old. Their first vaccines are giving by our vet at 8 weeks old. Their last worming will be giving at that time during their health check up. We never take our puppies out of the house until they have their first vaccines.
All of our Rat terriers have their tails dock and dew claws removed at birth. Unless their birth weight is so small and I think they would do better health wise to wait until they are 4 days old and then only if they are in good health.
The other time is when a request for the tail not to be dock. Then we would need the puppy to be paid in full. This is non refundable so make sure you pick out the one you want and know you are not going to change your mind. When I have such request I will hold off docking the tails till the next day after birth but will remove the dew claws at birth.
