Get some small containers like the ones that hold salad dressings from take out restaurants. Or you could use the ones like potato salad or cole slaw. Cut 4 openings at the major compass points,N,S,W,E. Each opening should be a little smaller than a garden pea,big enough for the ants to enter. Keep lids on to retain and retard evaporation. Mix 1 teaspoon of boric acid powder 6 tablespoons of sugar 2 cups of water Using hot water will help in dissolving time. You can use cotton balls or rolled absorbent cotton. Fill up the container with cotton and pour mix into container. I suggest that you use rubber gloves to handle any of the cotton after the mix is on it. I have also used baggies to hang out side of my bird cages when they were out side. The goal is to have them take it back to the rest of nest to feed and killing the queen ant. Start with the above formula and wait 3 days. If no ants appear after that time you got it right. If there are still lots of ants , increase the amount of boric acid and try again. If you find dead ants around the container make the mix a little weaker(less boric acid powder), you want them to take it back to the nest and then die their. Now some ants are vegetarins and some are meat eatting. Just don't know how to ask for their preferences. So if the above isn't working, 1/4 cup of sugar,1/4 cup of baking yeast and 1/4 of molasses, spread this mixture onto index cards and place the cards out to trap the ants. Watching ants die slowly while stuck to an index card was not my ideal of fun but it did stop the ants from coming around... Janet
